PRP IN NJ

So, you’ve heard of PRP—“vampire facials,” healing miracles, and maybe even a meme or two. But let’s go deep into the science. We’ll also see how its cousin, PRF (platelet‑rich fibrin), stacks up.

What in the Centrifuge Is PRP?

Platelet‑rich plasma is essentially your blood’s VIP section: platelets packed with growth factors like PDGF, TGF‑β, VEGF, EGF, IGF, and more, separated via centrifuge and injected right back into you — like sending reinforcements to wounded tissue  .

For the aesthetically minded, the PRP hype is strong: it’s your own growth-factor buffet, no immunological drama, just a natural boost  .

PRP in Aesthetic Medicine: Is the Glow Real?

Skin Rejuvenation & Scarring

A 2024 systematic review found PRP enhances collagen density, skin appearance, and speeds wound healing — think thicker skin, fewer wrinkles, smaller pores, and faster healing time after a laser procedure or Microneedling.

Another review hailed PRP as “safe and effective” for regenerative skin healing and rejuvenation—without scaring your rosacea-prone cheeks off  .

Hair Restoration

PRP is also a go-to for hair-loss worries. Reviews report improvements in hair density and thickness—18–27 hairs per cm² on average. You’ll need a course: generally at least three monthly treatments, then maintenance every few months  . Hello thick flowing hair.

Fat Grafting & Wound Healing

PRP doesn’t discriminate—it also seems to improve fat graft survival and chronic wounds (think ulcers)  .

Musculoskeletal Injuries

Evidence is… mixed. Some studies show PRP helps with tendon injuries, partial rotator‑cuff tears, and even meniscus surgery—especially short term—but the long‑term benefits are less clear  .

Surgery, Dental & Reproductive Applications

PRP boosts healing in dental procedures—think tooth extractions, implants, and jawbone issues  . It’s also being explored in infertility: intra‑ovarian and intra‑uterine PRP injections show promise for thin endometrium and diminished ovarian reserve—but it’s still early-stage investigation  .

PRF vs PRP: The Rise of the Thicker Cousin

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is the second-generation platelet concentrate—slower to release growth factors, includes fibrin and sometimes white blood cells (bonus antibacterial action?)  .

Aesthetic Uses

In acne scar treatment, PRF (with or without microneedling) outperformed PRP—patients reported higher satisfaction and better results  .

Another study found intradermal PRF gave wrinkle reduction, improved pigmentation, and boosted overall skin freshness—with a good safety profile  .

Wound Healing

One trial comparing PRF and PRP dressings on chronic skin ulcers showed similar effectiveness and safety—both led to nearly full re‑epithelialization (PRF: 95.2%, PRP: 90.4%)  .

Dental Tissue Regeneration

PRF also shines in periodontal regeneration: in some cases, it matched the performance of demineralized freeze-dried bone allografts for gum and bone healing  .

Safety & Standards:

PRP is largely considered safe—no major safety flags in most trials. Most issues are minor—redness, swelling, temporary discomfort.

But—and this is a serious “but”—there have been real horror stories when “vampire facials” go rogue. In one case, three women contracted HIV after PRP injections at an unlicensed spa reusing single-use equipment. This underscores the necessity of medical-grade safety and certified clinicians.
